The creator of ‘Wonder Man’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ doesn’t understand why the series was abruptly canceled, breaking his heart

Imagine that you’ve finally fulfilled your dream: you’ve been given a series on Disney+, and people liked it so much that the lead was even nominated for an Emmy and you were given a second season… And then, they decide to cancel it. Obviously, you’d be baffled. Well, that’s what has happened to Destin Daniel Cretton, who on the one hand is enjoying the success of Spider-man: Brand New Day and on the other they’ve left him heartbroken.

After a few days of silence, enjoying the success of his movie, Cretton has finally spoken about the hot topic: “I love that series to death. If it were up to me, we’d be making it. And I think that (and I know this sounds weird) if it were up to Kevin Feige, we’d be making it“. I wouldn’t ask him, just to be safe, because in the end everything goes through him and the person you’d least expect may have betrayed you, Destin.

Cretton goes on: “I don’t fully understand the streaming business, but if business were good we’d be making it because I know Feige loves it as much as I do. It sucks. They broke my heart. But I need to fully understand why”. Deep down, it’s as easy as refusing to make more movies for Marvel if they don’t give him his series back, but of course, that’d be too risky.

That said, he admits that, after reading the fans’ speculation about a possible movie, it’s an interesting question, but he doesn’t know if enough people are watching it, since Disney+ doesn’t share its audience data even with him. “Because then we’d clearly know if it’s a hit or not”. They really are determined to ruin his moment, huh?
