Epic Games Store has announced that its development team will focus its efforts on improving the user experience, which includes a thorough technical review of the launcher and the introduction of new social features. Among the new features are forums and player profiles, a notable change in the company’s strategy, which had previously rejected the idea of integrating forums into its platform.
They are going to make your launcher less disgusting
Steve Allison, store manager, explained that after prioritizing content and developers throughout its early years, it is now time to address “the things that players need.” In this regard, a scheduled technical review is expected for the summer that promises to improve the speed and loading times of the store. “We are dismantling the epic launcher on PC,” said Allison, announcing that these improvements are a direct response to user demands.
One of the most notable features will be the incorporation of moderated forums, designed to foster an active and controlled community. In this regard, the company will seek to mitigate the phenomenon of ‘review bombing’ by introducing a system in which only randomly selected users who have played for more than two hours will be invited to rate the games. According to Allison, this system has been “pretty bulletproof” and aims to provide a more equitable review environment that is less susceptible to mass negative comments.
As competition with Steam continues, Epic Games Store has also stood out by offering a better financial proposal to developers, which has helped attract several major titles. This, combined with a strategy of free games, suggests that Epic is positioning itself as a viable alternative in the digital gaming market.
