The director of the He-Man movie is clear: his villain must resemble the one from the cartoons at all costs

In the cinematic realm, the highly anticipated film Masters of the Universe, directed by Travis Knight, will premiere on June 5, 2026. Knight has made it clear that he always wanted Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, to have a design faithful to the iconic He-Man cartoon. Unlike the 1987 film, in the new adaptation, Skeletor will be presented as a complete skeleton with red eyes, a significant change that has generated some criticism among fans.

A truly skeletal Skeletor

The cast of the movie includes Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, as well as other notable actors like Idris Elba and Morena Baccarin. However, there has been disappointment over the absence of She-Ra, a character that many were hoping to see, and the radical change in Skeletor’s design compared to the original version from 1983.

Despite the controversy over the villain’s design, Knight is determined that his version of Skeletor will faithfully represent the essence of the character. “Skeletor has a skull face,” the director stated, emphasizing his vision for this new adaptation. With the interest generated by the announcements and the current themes surrounding the movie, fans of the franchise are eagerly awaiting what this new story will bring.
