Matt and Ross Duffer, better known as the Duffer Brothers and the minds behind Stranger Things, have locked in a lucrative four-year deal with Paramount. One project is already on the calendar, with a theatrical release set for November 3, 2028. The agreement is expected to produce several projects for the studio. Beyond that, Paramount isn’t saying much yet.
A forgotten film
This Paramount title won’t actually be the Duffer Brothers’ first movie. Their debut was Hidden, a psychological thriller with Alexander Skarsgård and Andrea Riseborough. The film caught M. Night Shyamalan’s eye and drew some attention from critics, but most viewers passed right by it. Small movie, tight nerves, not much of a crowd.
The brothers’ move away from Netflix has been all over the news, but it doesn’t look like there’s any bad blood there. And it’s not as if they’re leaving after a flop.
Before they wrap up that chapter, Matt and Ross Duffer still have one more series to leave behind at the streamer: The Boroughs. People are already talking about it because of the mix of science fiction, horror, and comedy, basically Stranger Things for older people, and it already feels like the kind of show that could hit big on the platform.
For now, the only concrete detail about their Paramount plans is the release date of that new film. Everything else is still a blank. Even so, it’s hard to picture Matt and Ross Duffer making anything that doesn’t land in a big way. So yes, we’ll be watching closely, even if there’s still a year and a half to go before we learn what exactly they have lined up.
