Netflix has released The East Palace worldwide, adding a big-budget Korean dark fantasy to its lineup, one built around ghosts, curses, and palace intrigue.
The story unfolds in a fictional historical era. At the center are a ghost-slayer and a court lady who can hear the dead, both trying to trace a curse moving through the royal palace. It folds court drama, horror, and Korean folklore together, including gwisin and shamanistic rituals, but in a way that should still be easy to follow.
The early coverage has focused on the look of it: lavish costumes, richly detailed palace sets, and polished action scenes. Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo, and Cho Seung-woo lead the cast, with Choi Jung-kyu directing and Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won on writing duties.
So far, reviews have leaned positive, especially on the cast, the mood, the visuals, and the chemistry between the leads. Some critics do say the plot and the mythology can feel familiar, or dense at times.
If you’re after a new binge with supernatural mystery and strong production values, The East Palace looks like a solid pick. It also lands in the middle of Netflix’s wider run of Korean fantasy releases, though early Netflix Top 10 data still isn’t available.
