The most anticipated massively multiplayer game of 2014, The Elder Scrolls Online, will be released on April 4th for PC and Mac, with PlayStation and Xbox One versions coming in June.

There’s also a new trailer, showing player versus player combat with hundreds of player fighting at the same time. The trailer also highlights a worry about the game – it still looks much more generic than the iconic series that it follows.

Another challenge for The Elder Scrolls Online is entering the market as a subscription game. There’s a flood of free to play fantasy MMORPGS already. If all The Elder Scrolls Online has is its franchise name, and not anything else to distinguish itself, it will struggle to be successful. Nevertheless, The Elder Scrolls has an enormous fan base, as the continuing popularity of Skyrim proves.
