The end of an era on Reddit: the two changes nobody wanted to see are now official

Reddit has confirmed two major changes for those of us who use the platform extensively, especially if we’ve been doing so for years now. After starting to require that we log in to access Old Reddit, the company is taking another step. The classic interface will be limited to existing users, not new ones, while RSS support already has an end date.

Old Reddit is reserved for its regular users

According to the company’s announcement, over the coming months Old Reddit will be limited to accounts that have used it during the last six months. Moderators will keep their access, but the classic version is now being kept for those of us who already use it. The change continues the decision to require logging in to Old Reddit, mind you.

The justification (excuse, according to many users) for this decision lies in data protection. Reddit decided to charge for certain uses of its API and, while it allows OpenAI to access the platform’s content to train an AI that can practically already replace the platform itself, the alleged scraping that Reddit’s old version allows is what Reddit cites to justify this restriction.

RSS already has a farewell date

The second change will arrive on November 13, 2026, when Reddit will stop offering support for RSS feeds. For certain moderation tasks, the company recommends tools like Discord Relay. As users react to the fact that a company is recommending the use of a competitor to access the service that Reddit could provide itself, Reddit continues to base this decision on automated scraping, the same argument behind the new Old Reddit restrictions.

While one could argue that simply restricting the number of feeds queried could stop scraping and satisfy users, the company’s decision, for now, seems firm. While it experiments with ways to turn posts into TikTok-like content, for those of us who have spent years using RSS and Old Reddit, these moves mark the end of an era.
