Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson said this weekend that he has no plans to continue developing 0x10c, which was announced in 2012.

A very ambitious project, 0x10c was to be a space exploration game which saw you trying to survive in a cold universe nearing the end of its life. A bug in deep sleep cells developed for space travel resulted in some people kept in deep sleep until the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD. It was going to feature a fully programmable on-board computer in your ship, allowing you to modify the game from within the game itself.

Minecraft follow up 0x10c has been shelved

0x10c was a very ambitious proposition, and earlier this year Notch admitted he was struggling with a creative block. Now it seems he has shelved the game altogether. However, his concept has inspired a group of fans to make the game themselves, calling it Project Trillek. This game won’t be based on any of 0x10c’s code, and will apparently have a different story behind the space exploration. You can follow their progress on its new subreddit page.

Notch will continue to make games, but focus on smaller, less grand idea for the time being.
