Mike Ybarra, former president of Blizzard, has not hesitated to criticize Marvel Rivals, one of the major games released this past week that continues to break records. Although the former executive has deleted the message posted on X (Twitter), players have taken the necessary screenshot to keep it recorded.
In this message, Ybarra said that “the Overwatch Marvel Rivals seems to be coming out tomorrow“, using irony about the similarity of the new game. “The same thing happens with Light of Motiram (a blatant copy of Horizon Zero Dawn), which comes from China. Even the name Widowmaker is similar to Black Widow in Marvel Rivals,” he indicated.
Many users were quick to say that Black Widow has been a long-standing Marvel character for decades, and that, in any case, it was Overwatch that copied this character from the comic book world.
In light of the uproar caused by the statements, as well as the slip-up regarding the character, Ybarra has decided to delete the message.
The launch of Marvel Rivals and Path of Exile 2 has led to Steam breaking its historical user record.
