The God of War series could have a new Kratos, and he’d be a former WWE star

The God of War series seems to be having quite a few production problems. Ryan Hurst was chosen for the lead role of Kratos, but after a biceps injury that could keep him recovering for up to a year, Prime Video decided to reopen casting for the role. That has sparked a huge debate about who could make a good Kratos. And it seems they’ve found the perfect Kratos.

A real-life Kratos

According to Deadline, Dave Bautista is in negotiations to play the famous character from Sony’s franchise. Known as Batista during his days as a professional wrestler in WWE, where he was a six-time world champion, he’s one of the few wrestlers who has built a notable film career after leaving the ring. With major roles in films as varied as Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune, or Knives Out: Glass Onion.

Likewise, the actor who plays Atreus, Kratos’s son, will not return for the second season. Callum Vinson, the actor from Chucky, would not return for the second season, since they’re looking for a different actor because any growth spurt between seasons might not match the time gap between them.

Given the dreadful public reaction to the first images of the series, which were even accused of being AI-generated, and to Hurst’s own casting, which was considered unconvincing as Kratos, it seems this is an attempt by Amazon to please the fans. Now it remains to be seen whether they can improve that first impression. Although, with someone like Bautista, it’s undeniable that they’re closer to what everyone has in mind when they think of Kratos.
