I’m sure you’ve heard of Halo. This, originally, was a video game that came to Xbox and PC in 2001. Little did Bungie, the development team, know that this game would become one of the most important IPs in the world.

As of today we have more than 7 games in the Halo universe, several animated series, comics and all kinds of content related to Microsoft’s intellectual property. It is their flagship, along with Gears of War, and now they can boast of having a series to match.

Don’t think about The Last of Us

We all know that adaptations to the small and big screen from the world of video games are equal to disaster or disappointment. The Assassin’s Creed movie is a good example, as is the Warcraft film.

Luckily, a few months ago a very ambitious series arrived on HBO Max that promised to adapt the video game The Last of Us, one of the great titles of the past decade and the jewel in PlayStation’s crown. This could only go either very well… or very badly.

As you well know, because you don’t live in a cave, HBO’s adaptation was incredible. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey embroidered the roles of Ellie and Joel, respectively, and managed to captivate and thrill millions of viewers around the world.

Currently The Last of Us is the most watched series in the history of HBO Max and the opinion of critics and the public is unanimous: the best thing that has been done on television and the best audiovisual adaptation of a video game.

For this reason, I’m telling you: don’t expect Halo to be The Last of Us. It doesn’t take itself so seriously, nor does it pretend to give that air of solemnity and reflection. Halo is more than a video game and a closed story, it is a universe and that shows in the works that bear the stamp of the brand.

Halo is a series for fans… and non-fans of the game…

The best thing about Halo is that it seeks to please the longtime fan and hook the newcomer who has never picked up an Xbox controller in his life. In that sense, it does a great job.

The Halo series is canon, so we can take the plot as something serious and to keep in mind for the future. And the best thing is that it builds its story on key pillars in the video games, but adapting them to the series format and being quite free.

The Halo series is something new with a whiff of old and I love that. I’m a big fan of video games (I’ve played all the main Halo games, not the tactical ones) and I can say without fear that it’s a good series and a good adaptation.

And, best of all, without taking itself too seriously, being faithful to what video games are: an excuse to have fun shooting all over the galaxy and with an interesting background plot if you feel like investigating. The series reflects that perfectly.

Halo is ideal if you have finished The Mandalorian

As you know, this week ended the third season of The Mandalorian. This has brought sadness and depression to millions of fans of Grogu and Din Djarin.

For all those who already miss spaceships, impossible poses, laser shots and badass monsters, Halo is the series they have to start watching as soon as possible to get cured.

It is true that here we have Pablo Schreiber instead of Pedro Pascal, but it also has its audience (plus it’s nice to take a break from so much Pedro that we have him in our soup).
