Helldivers is one of Sony’s major franchises right now. With a movie in the works, everything seemed to be going perfectly, until a huge problem occurred: they have lost their main actor. Jason Momoa has confirmed that he has left the project of bringing Sony’s biggest success in online games to the big screen.

The reason for this, for now, is unknown. The actor has not wanted to clarify his reasons for leaving the project, but this has hurt the project directed by Justin Lin, leaving it without a star to lead it. In any case, it doesn’t seem like Momoa will be lacking work: he will appear as Blanka in the Street Fighter movie in October, he will reprise his role in the sequel to A Minecraft Movie, and he will play Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie, so it’s not like he is in need of work.
On the other hand, the movie will not necessarily have to change its plans due to this casting change. The film is scheduled for release on November 10, 2027, so its filming is not yet planned for at least the end of this year or perhaps even the beginning of next year, which gives them time to find a new actor. This is a situation much less serious than it seems. Even if it is, by no means, ideal.
Helldivers 2 has sold over 20 million copies to date and has generated more than 700 million dollars in profits, making it one of the most successful games for Sony in this generation. Something that makes this movie one of their top priorities. So it is to be expected that they will treat it with great care, aiming for it to be a success just like its game.
