The series The Last of Us has been acclaimed for its faithful adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game, as well as for its ability to expand narratives in new directions. This success is largely due to the time the series allows for deepening character development and the context of its story, aspects that are difficult to achieve in a movie. The series, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, has resonated with both critics and audiences, solidifying its position in the contemporary television landscape.
A movie that didn’t reach a good port
Originally, the adaptation of The Last of Us was conceived as a movie, with its announcement in 2014, just a year after the game’s release. This version was under the supervision of Neil Druckmann, creator of the video game, and produced by Sam Raimi, known for the first Spider-Man trilogy. However, the project faced numerous obstacles and was ultimately shelved. Neil Druckmann expressed his concern about the idea of other actors potentially portraying Joel and Ellie, who were portrayed by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in the game, making it difficult to envision others in those roles.
The proposal to turn the adaptation into a series was driven by Craig Mazin, known for his work on Chernobyl. This change in format has allowed for a richer exploration of the characters and their stories, resulting in a final product that has exceeded initial expectations. With the premiere of the second season scheduled for April 14 on Max Spain, fans are eager to see how the story will unfold in this new installment.
