Capcom has detailed the new features coming to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (including the weather-manipulating elder dragon Amatsu) as part of its free April update.
It has also confirmed that there will be a final free update of Sunbreak in June 2023. Undoubtedly, one of the best Monster Hunter of recent years.
Monster Hunter Rise update 5 (also known as version 15) launches tomorrow, April 20, and its most notable new feature is the Looming Calamity, better known as the Elder Dragon Amatsu.
This formidable creature can control the weather, conjuring violent storms and lightning once it shows its true power, and is available to hunters of MR 10 or higher.
What’s new in Sunbreak DLC
Amatsu is accompanied by the second creature added in Update 5, a powerful Shagaru Magala variant, which will be available starting at 180 rank points.
As expected, new equipment can be forged with the materials dropped by both creatures, including an attractive Palamute outfit that resembles a floating armored horse.
In update 5, two respawned elder dragons have been added to anomaly research missions and the anomaly research limit has been increased to 300.
After completing an Anomaly Investigation with the new level cap, players will be able to unlock new types of quests known as Special Investigations.
In these, hunters face the toughest monsters, each of which features a series of behavior-altering power-ups, such as increased strength and expanded breath attacks.
On top of all this, Update 5 introduces new event missions with exclusive rewards, including a slightly sinister Cheshire Cat-like outfit, a pair of dazzling Speedos and corresponding buffed body, Lagombi rabbit ears, plus poses and new layered armor.
A paid DLC… and a free update for Monster Hunter
And, of course, no title update would be complete without the addition of paid DLC, which this month includes the new Monster & Elgado Music Chill Version background music pack, plus new cape armor, voices for Sir Jae and Oboro the Merchant Hunter, face paint, hairstyles, special stickers and more.
As part of today’s announcement, Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will receive a final free bonus content update in June, introducing one final additional monster.
Update 5 for the title launches for Switch and PC tomorrow, April 20, and will be available later this year for Xbox and PlayStation.
Capcom has now confirmed that players on the latter platforms will have access to all free content up to version 13 when Monster Hunter Rise’s Sunbreak expansion launches on April 28. Content from version 14 onwards will come to Xbox and PlayStation “after the summer of 2023.”
