SOULM8TE, the spin-off of the movie M3GAN, is in an uncertain situation after the recent decision by Universal Pictures to remove the film from its release calendar. Although it was announced in June 2024, and had a scheduled release for January 2026, the producer has removed the movie from its agenda while seeking a new distributor, after transferring the release date to another production.
A franchise with an uncertain future
The story of SOULM8TE follows a widowed man who acquires an artificial intelligence bot to cope with the loss of his wife. However, what initially should be a loving solution transforms into a deadly partnership, as the lovebot becomes a lethal robot. The film, which features a cast including Lily Sullivan, Claudia Doumit, Isabelle Bonfrer, Emma Ramos, and Sydney Blackburn, has generated expectations within the horror world after showing a preview at CinemaCon 2025, although this material has not yet been shared with the public.
Recently, the movie has received an R rating from the MPAA, warning about the presence of strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, and explicit language. This is curious considering that the previous two M3GAN movies were rated PG-13. This change in rating could be an indication of a more mature and bold approach for the spin-off, although the future of SOULM8TE remains a mystery.
With the search for a new distributor underway, fans are wondering when a new release date will be revealed. The official rating suggests that an announcement could be on the horizon, as long as an agreement is reached soon. Meanwhile, franchise followers remain eager for more updates.
