It is rumored that Apple is about to launch its foldable phone, tentatively known as the iPhone Ultra, which could become the company’s most expensive device to date, possibly reaching a price over $2,000 in the U.S.
According to the renowned analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the starting price of the iPhone Ultra could exceed that figure, placing it above the current iPhone 17 Pro Max, which starts at $1,199.
A truly prohibitive price for almost all Apple users
The reactions among users on Reddit are mixed. While some show enthusiasm saying it will “sell like hotcakes,” others express skepticism, commenting that it could “fail miserably” in the market. This division of opinions reflects the uncertainty about whether consumers will be willing to invest in such an expensive smartphone.
Regarding the specifications, the iPhone Ultra is expected to feature two 48 MP rear cameras, a 5,800 mAh battery, and 12 GB of RAM, powered by the A20 Pro chipset.
This device would also stand out for its thin thickness, measuring 9.5 mm when folded and 4.5 mm when unfolded. However, its design will not allow space for Face ID facial recognition, so Touch ID will be used as the security method.
The iPhone Ultra would be competitively positioned against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has a starting price of $1,999. Additionally, it is expected to include innovative features, such as a possible under-display camera, although Apple has not yet decided on the final design it will adopt.
With all this, it remains to be seen whether the high price will attract consumers or if it will become an obstacle to its success in the market.
