The animated series “Maul – Shadow Lord” has debuted to outstanding reception, achieving a perfect rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes after 25 reviews.
This achievement positions it as one of the most acclaimed projects in the Star Wars universe, surpassing the score of the second season of “Andor,” which was at 97%. Only “Tales of the Jedi” and “Tales of the Underworld” have managed to match this perfection in critical evaluation.
A series that all Star Wars fans were waiting for
In “Maul – Shadow Lord,” the plot is set after the events of “The Clone Wars” and follows Maul, the former leader of the Shadow Collective, as he attempts to rebuild his criminal empire. In his journey, he seeks to recruit a young Twi’lek named Devon Izara as his apprentice, a character whose story is marked by her connection to the Jedi Order.
Athena Yvette Portillo, executive producer, describes Devon’s situation as a kind of internal conflict, where the young woman feels drawn to the elements of the dark side, adding a layer of complexity to her journey.
The criticisms of the program highlight not only the impressive visual quality but also the voice acting of Sam Witwer, who returns to portray Maul. In our own review, we awarded the series four stars, describing it as a visually striking entry in the Lucasfilm Animation canon that explores the anger and vulnerability of one of the most intriguing characters in Star Wars.
The significant interest generated by “Maul – Shadow Lord” among fans reflects the narrative depth and character development expected from a work of this franchise. For followers who wish to catch up, it is advisable to review “The Clone Wars” to better appreciate Maul’s story.
