The new version of American Psycho has entered pre-production and Bret Easton Ellis is excited

Horror movie enthusiasts and fans of Bret Easton Ellis’s work have reasons to stay tuned, as the adaptation of American Psycho directed by Luca Guadagnino is in full pre-production. According to Ellis, the casting team is still searching for the actor who will play Patrick Bateman, a role that has proven difficult to fill. Notable actors have turned down the offer, leading to speculation about who will ultimately take on this iconic character.

Looking for a Patrick Bateman of the same caliber

Among the names that have circulated is Patrick Schwarzenegger, known for his work in The White Lotus and Gen V, as well as Austin Butler, who stood out in Elvis. The search for an actor to portray Bateman has generated interest, especially because Ellis suggests that some of these high-profile actors may be avoiding the role due to Christian Bale’s great performance in the 2000 adaptation.

Unlike Mary Harron’s version, this reinterpretation of American Psycho promises to be completely different, according to what Ellis has shared. The script is by Scott Z. Burns, acclaimed for his work on Contagion and The Bourne Ultimatum, which has generated positive expectations about the approach and depth of the new film. Guadagnino has noted that Burns is doing a “great job,” suggesting a strong creative direction.
