In less than a week, the PlayStation Showcase, Sony’s biggest event of the year, is arriving. It is expected that they will announce many things, including updates on their games in development, as well as games we are not yet aware of. However, one studio that is unlikely to have anything to show us is Santa Monica Studio. After all, God of War: Ragnarok has only been on the market for a year and a half, so it would be strange if they were already well advanced on their next project. Or so we thought before reading what Hermen Hulst wrote on Twitter about his recent visit to the studio.

For those who may not know, Hulst is the head of PlayStation Studios, responsible for ensuring everything is going well at Sony’s development studios, and he works closely with all the studios that primarily create games for PlayStation. In his recent visit to Santa Monica Studio, he mentioned that they are working on something very inspiring.

What could it be? In reality, we don’t know. They have previously stated that God of War: Ragnarok will not have DLC, so we can rule that out. However, we do know that the studio intends for this new iteration of the God of War series to be, at the very least, a trilogy. It could be a hypothetical third installment, similar to Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which could be a smaller-scale God of War experience. Alternatively, it could be a completely new IP that they have been working on in parallel with Ragnarok.

Whatever the case, we’ll have to wait to find out more. Although with the PlayStation Showcase just around the corner, on May 24, if it’s something we can expect to see in the next year and a half to two years on our consoles, then we should be able to get our first look at it much sooner than we expected.
