Mojang Studios have announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be released on October 27. On that note, the developer, which is now owned by Microsoft, has stated that “the Switch 2 version renders the world of Minecraft with the Vibrant Visuals set as the default experience. This means enhanced lighting, shading effects, and more, available across all compatible content in the Minecraft Marketplace”.
A highly anticipated version
These won’t be the only changes we can expect. Also, “the beloved Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will also be updated to make the very most of these graphics. As a reminder, the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is exclusive to the Nintendo versions of Minecraft, with Mario worlds, music, and unique skins. Explore iconic places like Peach’s Castle or Delfino Plaza in Minecraft”. So there’ll be quite a bit of updated content for the game.
Meanwhile, they stressed that you won’t need to buy the game again if you already had it on Nintendo Switch, confirming that there will be a digital upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Though they haven’t spoken about details or whether it’ll be free or how much it might cost.
With that, Microsoft’s plans to turn Minecraft into its flagship franchise going forward continue after its latest restructuring. As Microsoft doubles down on Mojang Studios, this is the first step in this renewed focus on what they consider their most valuable IP and which should become far more valuable starting in 2027-2028.
