The Sandlot Disney+ revival has now been canceled

The Sandlot revival at Disney+ is done. The sequel series, tied to the 1993 film The Sandlot, has been canceled after hanging around in development since 2019.

Disney publicly confirmed the project in November 2023. The idea was to bring back the original Sandlot cast as adults for a story set in the 1980s. It never made it through. Delays from the SAG-AFTRA strike, along with Disney’s broader pullback from streaming originals, seem to have killed it off as streamers get pickier about nostalgia-based IP.

So if you were hoping for a direct continuation, there’s no real reason to keep waiting. Patrick Renna, who played Ham Porter in The Sandlot, has said the 1993 movie was “lightning in a bottle,” and he seems more interested in a looser return that leans on the original cast chemistry than in trying to outdo the movie.

What you can keep an eye on is Dugout Dads, a new comedy Renna is producing with Tom Guiry, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, and other Sandlot veterans. But there’s nothing from this Disney+ revival for you to stream, and the new series still doesn’t have a release date.
