The sequel to '28 Years Later' was a failure, but they are not going to leave us without a trilogy

Danny Boyle promised actively and passively, during the press tour of 28 years later, that they would make a trilogy of this third part. And they quickly delivered, with a first part directed by Boyle himself and The Temple of Bones, in which Nia DaCosta took the helm.

A trilogy that we are going to enjoy very soon

Sadly, they were released very close together and this sequel, despite being more interesting than the original film, flopped monumentally at the box office. So much so that many of us feared that the story would never come to an end.

We can breathe easy, because 28 years later 3 is still standing, partly thanks to Cillian Murphy returning to his original role after so long, and that has given Sony peace of mind.

In fact, if they haven’t started filming yet, it’s due to a simple photography issue: “We ran out of time because it’s set in an area of the United Kingdom where you can only film at certain times of the year. We literally ran out of time.”.

So, yes: Hopefully, fingers crossed, next year. But we are excited and Alex Garland has created a fabulous script”. Let’s hope it is the rebirth of the undead and doesn’t remain forever in a zombie saga. It doesn’t deserve that.
