1. Create your first backyard business

Don’t let your enthusiasm get the better of you and avoid visiting Magnolia Promenade to acquire your first business. Think that these stores are very expensive and, unless you already have a fortune, it is better to save and start a small store from something smaller… Like for example the garden of your house!

A very effective method to earn a lot of money with your first business is to buy a cheap commercial lot and build your home on it. This will save you precious time because you won’t need to travel to your store to manage it. And as the saying goes: Time is money.

Opening a store in The Sims 4 is very simple, you will only need some tables with products and a cash register. That is why you will be able to create a small sales stand in the middle of your backyard. It is recommended that you sell objects from the game’s sales catalog. Opt for small, high-value items and you will soon see how much profit you can make.

2. Talk to customers to get more sales

If you want to sell, be sure to talk to any potential customer who comes to your booth. Accompany them around the store and encourage them as much as you can to buy your products. Keep in mind that if you start with a small business, such as your porch store, you will hardly sell anything until you have a fancy storefront.

To speed up the sale, ask the customer how much they want to spend, answer any of their questions, discover their preferences or suggest any of your products. Try out the different options, insist a lot and don’t lose sight of their reactions, which are vital to close a sale! Once the icon with a blue simoleon appears above their head, you have closed a sale. Click on it and pocket a good profit.

3. Prioritize restocking expensive items

If several items in your store have been sold, prioritize restocking the higher priced items, as this way there is a greater chance that other customers will be interested in them and you will earn more money.

By the way, don’t expect to have a big profit margin at the beginning. Set up your store so that the products are sold at most 25% profit, otherwise no one will buy from you.

4. Close the shop to satisfy your Sim’s needs

Work is important, but so is your Sim’s happiness. Keep an eye on your Sim’s needs and if you see that they need to sleep, eat, have a good shower or be entertained for a while, close the store. Believe us, it’s the best thing to do. An unpleasant or irate owner only creates unhappy customers and a bad reputation for your business. It’s better to close a few and restore the joy of your Sim’s than to doom your store to a dismal failure.

5. Do not hire employees until you have a great business

The Sims 4: Let’s Get to Work! allows you to hire employees to help you in your business. They will work approximately 8 hours a day and you will have to pay them at the end of the day. We strongly recommend that when you open your first business, do not hire anyone, they are quite expensive and if you do not have a big store, it is not worth hiring them. They are simoleons that you will save and that you will be able to invest in improving your business.

Hire an employee only when you have a minimum average daily income (and if you need one, of course). In the meantime, take charge of your business and, if necessary, ask for help from other members of your family. You can bring them into your business without any problem and they will work for free.

6. Invest in improvement points

Correctly performing actions in your store earns your sim points. These points are used to buy rewards that are improvements in your sales skills (only applicable to the sim owner of the business and his family unit, not to the employees).

Decorative items are very nice but, especially in your first days, save more points to buy really useful advantages. I strongly recommend you to get these as soon as possible:

  • Fast replenishment – small improvement (400 points)
  • Quick sales – small upgrade (450 points):
  • Curious buyer– (1000 points)
  • Safe selling– (2000 points)
  • Instant replenishment– (2200 points)

Later, buy these ones:

  • Additional Employee– (350 points and up)
  • Mega Manager– (1100 points)
  • Serious Buyer– (1300 points)
  • Fast replenishment – big upgrade (1400 points) Note that if you have purchased Instant replenishment, you no longer need it.
  • Quick sales – big upgrade (1400 points)
  • Cheaper replenishment – (2500 points)

7. Open an attractive and successful store

Once you’ve made the most of your small backyard store, it’s time to move up to the big league. Buy a ready-made store or, if you prefer, buy a new commercial lot and create your shop from scratch.

To build a successful store you must:

  1. Think about what kind of product you are going to sell.
  2. Create a building according to the product and mind.
  3. Choose attractive flooring, wallpaper, lighting and windows.
  4. Make sure the interior is spacious and allows customers to walk around the store.
  5. Place the products in the store in such a way that they are always within the customer’s reach.

8. Take care of your store’s appearance

Customers prefer clean and attractive stores. So, make sure that the objects in the store are always clean and that you have decorative elements that enhance the atmosphere as well as objects of comfort (such as sofas, armchairs or chairs) so that they feel at ease and stay longer in your store.

It also draws the attention of the clientele that you have a variety of products (why not have a clothing store that is also a cupcake cafe?) and neon signs.

If you have money you can also invest in advertising campaigns. To do so, access them from the cash register.

9. Take advantage of your Sim’s abilities

Are the Sims in your household unit good at a skill? Take advantage of it to create objects that you can then sell in your store. So, with the Painting skill you can create spectacular paintings that will have cost you what the canvas is worth but that you can sell for more than 1000 simoleons. And if you have a chef or pastry chef in the family, you can make some money with their delicacies.

Thus, although there is the option “Replenish” at certain times it will be more economical to create the object from scratch and place it in your store each time, since the cost price will be lower. Keep this in mind if you open cafes or art stores, especially.

But how do you improve your skills faster? Here are some tricks to achieve it.

10. Improve the skills of your employees

If your business is up and running and you’re struggling, it’s time to hire an assistant for your store. You will see that each of your employees has three different skills: Maintenance, Sales and Work Ethic. Would you like to know how to improve the skills of your employees? It’s very simple, just assign them to one task or another:

  • Maintenance skill: You improve it by assigning them tasks of restocking products and cleaning objects in the store. The higher their Maintenance level, the faster they will replenish stock and clean your store.
  • Sales Skill: It is improved by assigning them tasks to deal with customers. The higher the level of Sales the faster they will convince customers to buy something from us and the less time it will take to sell them the products.
  • Work Ethic Skill: It is improved by praising them and being on top of them if they do not do their job well. The higher the level of Work Ethic, the less time they will take off work to play with a cell phone or chat with other employees.

What type of store or business earns the most money?

It all depends on your skills and expectations. Selling low priced items is easier, but selling expensive items costs more but often pays off. It is best to assess the skills of your household members to produce stock and try things out… No one will be surprised if you go from having a toy store to an appliance store.

These are the businesses we consider the most profitable in The Sims 4: Let’s Get to Work!

1. Art Gallery

Ideal for Sims who are artists and spend most of the day painting or taking pictures. In addition to improving your skills with each product you put on sale, you will also get a not inconsiderable amount of simleons.

2. Pastry shop

In The Sims 4: Let’s Get to Work! you will be able to create the bakery of your dreams. And the best of all is that with it your Sims will not only amass all kinds of sweets, but also a real fortune. If your Sim is a good cook, don’t hesitate to create one. If not, choose to buy a cupcake maker. With it, you’ll be able to fill your store with delicious cupcakes in no time at all – and your pockets too!

3. Electronic shop

Every self-priced Sim (and who wants to look for a job) has a computer at home. If you create your own electronics store, you will not lack customers. In addition, the products you sell will be expensive, so your income will grow exponentially with each sale. If you always wanted to create your own Apple Store, this is the store for you.
