The source code of the Apple Store has been completed on GitHub

In an unexpected turn of events, hours after the launch of a revamped web interface for Apple’s App Store, a GitHub user known as rxliuli revealed that he had obtained the complete source code of the store’s frontend.

This incident occurred because Apple apparently accidentally enabled sourcemaps in production, allowing the codebase to be downloaded directly from the site.

The new interface presented by Apple includes dedicated pages for each of its platforms, application categorizations, and improvements in the search system.

There is no danger for Apple users

However, what should have been a celebration turned into a small setback for the company, as the standard practice for projects of this nature is to keep sourcemaps disabled in production.

Rxliuli used a Chrome extension to extract and save all available resources from the web App Store and decided to archive this information on GitHub for educational and research purposes.

Among the files included in the repository are the complete code of Svelte/TypeScript, state management logic, user interface components, API integration code, and routing configuration.

However, the leak does not pose a significant security or privacy risk for Apple, developers, or users. Such situations are unusual for the company and, while considered a minor issue, highlight the importance of following best practices in software development.

According to rxliuli, the source code was obtained from publicly accessible resources through developer tools in the browser. Although the repository is designed for educational purposes, its availability may not be long-lasting, prompting interested parties to explore how Apple built and structured the frontend of its new App Store as soon as possible.
