This fantasy MMO bids farewell to online, but it is not a definitive goodbye

The world of video games is facing a new significant event: the developers of Book of Travels, the fantasy exploration MMO by Might and Delight, have decided to permanently disable the online features. The server shutdown is scheduled for July 31, 2026, marking the end of an experience that, despite capturing the imagination of some players, failed to meet the expectations set by its creators.

There are things that are also enjoyed alone

Initially launched in early access in 2021, Book of Travels stood out for its focus on silent collaboration and magical exploration, without using a conventional chat system. However, this innovative design also limited its popularity, as the game peaked at only 1,390 concurrent players on Steam. In a statement, the developers acknowledged that the foundation on which the game was built was not sustainable, making it clear that their ambition exceeded their ability to execute that type of project.

To mitigate the impact of the closure, the team has rethought the experience, allowing Book of Travels to become a single-player game that will support mods. This will allow fans to continue exploring its fantasy world in a new mode, although without its original multiplayer component.

Might and Delight has expressed its desire to preserve the essence of Book of Travels despite the transition, stating that they are committed to keeping their world alive. Now, fans have the opportunity to experience this unique adventure in its single-player format, ensuring that the magic of the game endures, albeit in a different way.
