The video game ‘Replaced’, developed by Sad Cat Studios, is enchanting players with its captivating narrative and retrofuturistic cyberpunk aesthetic, clearly inspired by George Orwell’s masterpiece, ‘1984’. Set in a post-nuclear alternative reality of the United States, the game features a society controlled by the Phoenix Corporation and its Artificial Intelligence, R.E.A.C.H., which monitors citizens through extreme surveillance.
Retro and Cyberpunk Aesthetics
‘Replaced’ combines combat, platforming, and puzzle elements, reminiscent of other titles like ‘Inside’, ‘Planet of Lana’, and ‘Uncharted’. The gameplay, presented in a 2.5D environment, allows for a rich exploration experience, although some critics mention that the combat and platforming sections have a slower pace than expected.
Completing the main story, which features interesting narrative twists and delves into the relationship between humans and machines, can take around 13 hours on normal difficulty. Side missions, which enrich the game’s lore, are recommended for those who wish to delve deeper into this well-crafted dystopia.
Despite the solid narrative, some aspects of the sound section have been pointed out as improvable, as the music and sound effects are scarce, limited to key moments of the game. The visual experience, however, has been praised, highlighting its detailed and cinematic design.
‘Replaced’ is shaping up to be one of the most promising indies of 2026, offering an intense and meaningful experience for science fiction fans, despite its minor flaws. Undoubtedly, this title is expected to meet the high expectations it has generated in the gaming community.
