Apple has taken a new step in the world of entertainment with the release of the trailer for Submerged, the first scripted film created specifically to be viewed as an immersive video on the Vision Pro. Originally announced in July of this year, this short film promises to offer a unique experience, taking us to a historical context from a completely new perspective.
So real, the water splashes on your face
Submerged is set during World War II and follows a group of sailors struggling to survive after a torpedo attack. The film is directed by Edward Berger, an Austrian filmmaker known for his acclaimed movie All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), which won several awards for its intense depiction of war.
Although Apple has not yet revealed the exact duration of the film, the immersive video content on the platform is usually short, allowing for a maximized sensory experience without being exhausting. Like other immersive video projects available on Vision Pro since the device’s launch in February, Submerged will join its dedicated section within the TV app on Vision Pro.
The premiere of Submerged is scheduled for next Thursday, October 10, and it marks Apple’s first foray into a completely new type of production. To say that immersive video is 3D is an exceptional understatement.
Between spatial audio and the ability to look at any part of the action, it envelops us as if we were inside the recording. A recording, in fact, that we can glimpse in the trailer and that makes it clear, from the first frame, that Submerged will mark a before and after. While immersive sports will soon arrive on Vision Pro, we will see what the next project to be recorded this way will be.
