Tom Cruise’s Digger runtime is now official: just 128 minutes

Tom Cruise’s Digger, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s black comedy, is now listed at 128 minutes ahead of its October 2, 2026 theatrical release. That clears up the earlier talk that Digger might stretch to 2 hours and 40 minutes.

At 128 minutes, Digger comes in a lot leaner than some fans were expecting. It’s also well short of longer Cruise titles like Magnolia at 188 minutes, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning at 170 minutes, and Eyes Wide Shut at 159 minutes.

The reported runtime would also make Digger Tom Cruise’s shortest film in eight years. That lines up with the movie feeling like a real change of pace: it’s Cruise’s first non-action leading role in more than 10 years. Here he plays oil tycoon Digger Rockwell, whose actions set off an environmental disaster and push him into a darker, stranger, sharply satirical attempt to clean up the mess. Early footage has already kicked up plenty of buzz about Cruise’s transformation.

If most of your Tom Cruise viewing has been the stunt-driven blockbuster version of him, Digger looks like one to watch. Record-setting runtime or not, this could end up being one of the bolder turns he’s made in years.

You can catch Digger in theaters on October 2, 2026. The cast includes Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons, and the film is also Cruise’s first Warner Bros. release under his new partnership.
