Tom Hanks has been on a bit of a strange trajectory in recent years. Despite being one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood history with six Oscar nominations, this year he has been nominated for two Razzie Awards (the controversial anti-Oscars) for different performances: as Geppetto in Disney‘s Pinocchio and as Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis.
Now he is in the news, however, for an issue that has little to do with his acting quality. In the next film he will star in, called Here, he will use Artificial Intelligence to modify his appearance. The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis (director of Back to the Future) will use the AI tool Metaphysic Live, as a form of CGI rejuvenation.
The app is surprisingly good, and it was made famous before by another actor: Tom Cruise. Someone tested the app with the face of the Top Gun: Maverick star and uploaded a video testing it with him, which quickly went viral.
Hanks will not be the only one to be modified by this Artificial Intelligence for this film. Robin Wright’s (House of Cards) appearance will also be modified, as several moments in the lives of the two main characters will be explored.
Undoubtedly, this revolutionary technology could be applied to more and more films. While similar aspects have already been tested in films such as Irishman, it is becoming easier and easier to apply this technology, just as it is to use ChatGPT or DALL-E.
