It’s been a strange time in Hollywood. Brands have taken over the big studios and it has become fashionable to make movies about well-known brands. We have several very recent cases, such as Tetris, Blackberry, Air Jordan or McDonald’s, and now a trailer has been released for a movie about a product that no one expected: Flamin Hot Cheetos.

Titled Flamin’ Hot, it’s a film about Richard Montañez, the Mexican-born Cheetos factory janitor who created the perfect formula for America’s most popular Cheetos. It’s a flavor that ended up saving the company at a critical moment, and it has certainly been interesting enough for Disney Plus to be interested in making a movie about it. Its trailer makes it clear that this is a very unusual adventure:

The American dream in the form of Cheetos

Directed by Eva Longoria, famous actress of Desperate Housewives fame, the film will be released on June 9 on the Disney Plus platform. Its cast includes Jesse Garcia as the lead (Narcos: Mexico) and is accompanied by Annie Gonzalez, Tony Shalhoub, Dennis Haysbert, Matt Walsh, Emilio Rivera, Pepe Serna and Jimmy Gonzales. As for the script, it is a formula created by Linda Yvette Chavez and Lewis Colick.

The film contextualizes Cheetos for what it is: a great snack company that, nevertheless, experienced very desperate times on more than one occasion and had to constantly reinvent itself to continue to win over young – and not so young – people around the world. When Richard Montañez came up with the idea of spicy Cheetos in the early 1990s, the company was going through a very difficult situation.

Seen as a clear example of the American dream, this story seeks to impact Hispanic audiences and make clear the virtues of American capitalism. We will see if it achieves the success that other films such as Tetris have already achieved on platforms.
