Twitch trains Amazon’s AI with our videos: now we can prevent it

Amazon has been training its AI with the videos we publish on Twitch for years. Now, the company has added a setting that lets us decide whether we want to hand over our channel’s content for that purpose. The setting covers livestreams, VODs, and clips, but also chats, images, and text.

Twitch has been using our content for a while, now we can decide

According to Ars Technica, Amazon has been using Twitch content to train its AI at least since 2024. 

While Meta gave us a system to opt out of its AI training a little more than a couple of years ago, and OpenAI has reportedly been using YouTube videos to train ChatGPT, we’ve talked on more than one occasion about how to remove our data from the AI systems used by OpenAI, Slack, Adobe, and Google, among others. Now, we have to talk about Twitch.

How to exclude our channel from Amazon’s AI training

Twitch has decided to put the setting in our account’s security settings. The process takes only a few seconds. Here are the steps:

• Open the Twitch page and sign in.

• Tap our profile picture and go to Settings.

• We open the Security and Privacy section.

• Scroll down to the Training for Generative AI section.

• Disable Allow your channel content to train generative AI content models at Amazon.

Done. With this setting, our livestreams and the rest of our channel content are excluded from future training for Amazon’s generative models. Note the word “future” here. Of course, this setting is independent of various AI-assisted features, such as AutoMod or recommendations.
