Twitter can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re jumping into an out of context tweet. The company is addressing this issue by adding related headlines to tweets, giving users context about what’s being talked about. Related headlines show up beneath the original tweet, linking out to stories that provide context for the statement that has been made.

Twitter uses a tweet by Jason Collins, a NBA star who previously played for the Washington Wizards, who came out as gay back in April. If someone stumbled upon this tweet without knowing the news, he or she would be very confused. By adding related headlines, Twitter users can quickly research the context of a tweet. This is also beneficial for content creators to have people clicking through to their stories.

Unfortunately, related headlines don’t work everywhere and they only appear on the web. To get to the related headlines of a tweet, you have to click on the detailed view to see the links. This feature is a bit buried so hopefully Twitter integrates it better into the site and in its mobile apps.
