Twitter user, @asg (Anthony Geranio), noticed that TV shows were showing up as a box on top of his Twitter Timeline. In screenshots sent to TechCrunch, Geranio shows his Timeline featuring content from the show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and America’s Got Talent.
The TV Trending feature is apparently triggered when a show gets a huge number of tweets, bringing the card back to the top. Clicking on the card will bring up information about the show as well as other Twitter accounts that could be relevant to fans of that show.
While Twitter has not provided a comment directly about this new feature, a spokesperson did say to TechCrunch that the company innovates “through experimentation,” hinting that this feature is meant to be a test.
With more and more users interacting on Twitter during TV shows with hashtags, it’s not surprising that the company is experimenting with better ways to keep users engaged with the content they love. It also serves as a method for Twitter to serve up more advertising to its users.
