Universal Pictures has scheduled an untitled cinematic event from Illumination and Nintendo for April 12, 2028, sparking speculation that it could be the Donkey Kong spin-off movie that fans have been waiting for. The expectation surrounding this new project has been fueled by the resounding success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed around $1 billion at the box office. This milestone has led Nintendo to broaden its horizons in the film industry, with other projects planned, including The Legend of Zelda for 2027 and cinematic events scheduled for 2029 and 2030.

Seth Rogen is in negotiations to reprise his role as the voice of Donkey Kong, while Jack Black has mentioned the possibility of a third Mario movie for the year 2029. Although it has not yet been officially confirmed that the Donkey Kong film is scheduled for 2028, the background and records suggest that this project is very close to becoming a reality.

Rumors about the upcoming Donkey Kong movie have been circulating for some time, and with the growing popularity of video game film adaptations, interest in such projects continues to rise. With the release of the Super Mario Galaxy movie still in theaters, Nintendo fans will have plenty of content to look forward to in the coming years.
