Steam Deck is proving to be a pleasant surprise. Valve has already placed more than one million laptops worldwide, a number that is growing steadily after ensuring that there are no stock problems when buying it from Steam. This success with the console is raising all kinds of comments, although there is one that is the most repeated of all: is there going to be a new model soon?

With barely a year on the market, Valve is not planning to release a new version soon, either Steam Deck Pro or Steam Deck 2. We know this thanks to the statements of Lawrence Yang, current designer of the handheld, who in an interview with RockPaperShotgun has commented on some very interesting details.

Valve Issues Warning: Don’t Buy Steam Deck – Upgraded Version Coming Soon!

First of all, and perhaps most importantly, Valve believes that it has achieved a good, solid and robust handheld in terms of performance. For this reason, launching a new model is not in the plans in the short term, but it will take “a few years” to launch “a true Steam Deck that is next-generation“.

From the company they point out that they are seeing that the implementation of the console is being very good in homes, both in terms of sales and usage, that is, it is another reason not to make the leap to a new one: “The biggest surprise for me has been to see how Steam Deck has changed the way people play. One thing we’ve learned recently is that people who have bought Steam Deck, 42% of them spend their time on the handheld rather than other devices.”

There will be no new console or overhaul in the short term, but there will be major updates. They are looking to add functionality and features to Steam Deck to make it a “better gaming ecosystem“. And yes, the idea is also to increase the 8,000 titles that have the “verified” seal to play on Steam Deck.
