After many delays, VLC for Windows 8 is finally available in the Windows Store. Windows 8 users finally have touch-friendly video player.

VLC developer VideoLAN promised to release the media player on Monday but the app didn’t show up in the Windows Store until now. This initial release is still categorized as a “beta,” which means the program is a work in progress. While VLC for Windows 8 may not be the most stable program right now, it should work playing most video and audio files.

The interface hasn’t changed much since we first saw the pre-release version. Menus have been moved around but changes are minor.

VLC for Windows 8 allows you to use attached storage devices, like USB drives, to play media from. Simply navigate to the drive you want and select the media files you want to play.

Windows RT users are out of luck this time because the app only works with Windows 8. Windows RT is Microsoft’s simplified tablet operating system, which features only the tile interface of Windows 8. However, VideoLAN does promise to bring support to Windows RT future versions.
