Netflix is not going through its best moment. The streaming platform has lost more than one million users in Spain and its policy of shared accounts does not cease to provoke criticism among subscribers. However, from time to time it continues to sneak little gems into its catalog that make up for almost all the bad things it has.
The last of these surprising novelties has been Vortex, a French science fiction miniseries that, without eating or drinking, has become one of the most watched of the entire Netflix catalog. It is certainly worth a look, but what is its secret and why is it doing so well despite not being too well recognized?
A perfect series to make a marathon
Vortex is a thriller that mixes science fiction and crime narrative and is set in the near future, specifically in 2025. In this year there is a policeman who, after being reunited with his dead wife after a failure in the virtual reality system they were using, tries to reverse the accident that cost him his life, following all the steps and going deep into the depths of that digital system.
The series stars Tomer Sisley and Camille Claris, and is directed by Slimane-Baptiste Berhoun. Thus, it is a completely French-produced series that has received some of the best reviews of the local productions. Among others, that “it’s so fascinating that it’s hard not to watch it in one sitting” and that “by the end of its first episode, you’ll be hooked”.
Without a doubt, Netflix continues to make interesting sci-fi series. And, while Apple TV+ is still the queen of the genre after earning it handily over the past few years, in the end almost every platform must still be in Netflix’s shadow.
