Digital Extremes’ Warframe is still averaging about 163,095 daily active players in August 2026. For a game that launched on March 25, 2013, that’s a remarkable number, and it puts Warframe among the clearest long-haul success stories in the crowded live-service shooter space.
On Steam alone, Warframe is estimated to have around 31.1 million owners, and its all-time peak sits above 189,000 concurrent players. What makes that more impressive is how it started: not as an overnight phenomenon, but as a game that got a decent reception and then kept building from there.
That growth came piece by piece. New story chapters. New Warframes. Open-world zones, balance passes, quality-of-life updates, and the big annual reveals players now expect. At the same time, Digital Extremes kept tightening the parts that matter most over the long run, especially movement, build variety, and the kind of endgame depth Warframe didn’t fully have on day one.
If you play free-to-play shooters regularly, Warframe is still easy to recommend. Its monetization has stayed fairer than most of the competition, and that matters. You can earn valuable items by playing and trading, which has helped the game avoid the pay-to-win resentment that drags down so many rivals. Digital Extremes has reinforced that over the years with transparent devstreams, frequent communication, and TennoCon announcements that make Warframe feel like a game built with its community, not just sold to it.
Warframe is free on PC and consoles, and it’s also on iOS, where it arrived in 2024, and Android, where it launched in early 2026. Full cross-save ties it all together, so moving between platforms is a lot less of a hassle.
