Watch out! The entire next Zelda game has been leaked on the internet

If there is a highly anticipated game this month, it is The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. A new title in the franchise always raises expectations, but this one does so with even more reason than usual. It is the first time in a main saga game that we will be able to play as Princess Zelda. And yet, that doesn’t mean we won’t have to tread carefully before its release. Because what many feared has already happened.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has already been leaked on the Internet. Despite being two weeks away from its release, during the past weekend, Nintendo had to remove several YouTube videos that showed previously unseen stages of the game. Meanwhile, on social media, screenshots and videos showcasing a significant portion of the game are already circulating.

This is not something new. It is something that has already happened to Nintendo with many of its major releases. Both Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were leaked two weeks before their release. Super Mario Bros. Wonder did so shortly before. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom saw its ROM leaked online about two weeks before its release, and something similar happened with Metroid Dread, creating a tremendous controversy.

Why does this happen? There are many possibilities. It could be due to games being sent to the press and influencers, who then leak them on social media. It could also be because someone in the production chain steals one or more cartridges, leaking their content online afterward. And while the first scenario is usually easy to trace and address, as has been done in the past when it’s happened, the second one is much more complex, and practically nothing can be done about it.

Therefore, if you are waiting for the game and want to avoid any spoilers, be careful in the coming days when browsing your social media. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases on September 26th exclusively for Nintendo Switch, along with a new themed edition of the Nintendo Switch Lite.
