We already know when we’ll see Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series, and the biggest fans are going to despair

No one really knows what to expect from the Harry Potter series. On the one hand, a group of former fans wants to boycott it because of JK Rowling’s transphobia (spoiler: sadly, it’s not going to work out, as fair as that may be). On the other, younger millennials want to see exactly what they already saw in the movies and aren’t willing to entertain whatever changes HBO Max wants to impose. And it isn’t going to be easy for anyone.

Alohomora Hogwarts

If you’re of a certain age, you’ll remember exactly the moment when we saw Hogwarts for the first time in the cinema, because it was stunning. A gigantic castle whose staircases moved, the portraits greeted you, and there were ghosts and wands everywhere. Time has passed, though, and our patience is running out. Even though season 1 is only going to have 6 episodes, fans are going to go crazy when they see that Harry and his friends’ school still barely appears.

As Adriano Goldman, the series’ director of photography, has said, the first episode is still far from finished… and that’s with “Hogwarts only at the end”. In other words, we’ll see the school in the last shot before the credits, something that will no doubt test the patience of an audience that’s going to have to swallow an hour of Harry discovering, very slowly, that he really is a wizard.

There are a lot of unanswered questions: Will the audience accept this Harry Potter or reject it outright? Are we looking at a better adaptation, or just a longer one? Will JK Rowling pay for her continued attacks on the trans community or does most of the audience really not care about it? I’m afraid we’ll have to wait until December 25 to find out.
