Although we have yet to see the iPhone 15, but the first leaks about the iPhone 17 are already starting to emerge. According to industry experts and leakers, the iPhone 17 is set to be really impressive and to bring several key new features that have been on the wish list of many users for years.

The iPhone 17 is expected to include a number of rather interesting features, such as Face ID facial identification technology hidden under the display and a 120Hz display with ProMotion technology on all models, including the standard ones. In addition, the iPhone 17 is also expected to have a revamped front design. All this while rumors tell us of a future switch to the all-screen front.

Many changes, but all in the air

The information comes from none other than renowned analyst Ross Young, who in a tweet has given several details about the design of the iPhone and iPhone Pro in future iterations. According to reports, the iPhone 17 will feature several features that will differentiate it from its predecessors. First, the entire range is expected to incorporate ProMotion technology, which is currently only available on models with the last name Pro.

Forecast of changes from 2021 to 2027

Thanks to this change, we will be able to have a screen refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which makes the experience of using the device much more fluid and pleasing to the eye. But Pro Motion goes further, because thanks to the LTPO display, the device will be able to save battery by reducing the refresh rate when a fast response is not needed or when the screen is in Always On mode.

Another feature expected in the iPhone 17 is the addition of Face ID underneath the display. Apple’s facial recognition technology currently requires a cutout in the display, which is what shapes the Dynamic Island. Initially, with the iPhone 17s, Apple will keep a small cutout in the screen for the front-facing camera, something that will disappear a few years later, in 2027, when Pro models can hide it under the screen.

Thus, at this point, the high-end models of the iPhone, will have a front without any cutout, entirely screen. Something that, surely, will expand to the rest of the range after some time. We are talking, however, of the year 2028 or 2029, dates that are quite distant now that we are waiting for the new iPhone 15 this coming fall.

As always, it is important to keep in mind that rumors and leaks may not be accurate and that there is still plenty of time before the iPhone 17 is launched. Apple has always been very secretive about its launch plans and will not reveal information about the device until it is ready for official release. Therefore, it is important to keep a realistic outlook and not get too carried away with rumors and speculation.

That said, it is true that for years all the steps Apple has been taking in terms of the iPhone are aimed at achieving a device that is basically a screen. On the other hand, it is clear that the augmented reality glasses of this WWDC 2023, may change the priorities of the company, but in the meantime, whether we talk about the haptic buttons on the iPhone 15, the conversion of the notch in the Dynamic Island or the possibility of hiding Face ID under the screen, everything points in the same direction: that of an iPhone 17 quite different from what we know right now.
