What every fan has always dreamed of: this is what the metaverse Disney wants to create with Epic would be like

That Epic has managed to position itself as one of the most important companies on the planet within the video game industry thanks to Fortnite is no secret. The immense success of the battle royale has led numerous celebrities and franchises to collaborate with the game. Perhaps that’s why it was expected that Disney and Epic would strengthen ties at some point.

In February of this year, we learned that Disney had invested around 1.5 billion dollars in Epic to create a “persistent universe” full of experiences and games. In addition to that, it would also be connected with Fortnite itself.

Saxs Persson, executive vice president of Epic Games, gave an interview to The Verge in early October where he revealed more details about the collaboration. According to Persson, “Disney wants a persistent place where all Disney things can be there, but they want to be part of an ecosystem that we have built.”

Persson continues and states that “we believe that the magic lies in the power of interoperable ecosystems. From the player’s perspective, you want to be able to flow between a Fortnite experience, a Disney experience, or any experience, really.”

The collaboration made a lot of sense. Today, many Fortnite players can already enjoy a piece of Disney in their games, and in various ways. Whether it’s controlling a Marvel character or a Star Wars one, for the community, they are already an intrinsic part of Fortnite.

And the fact is that Epic has managed to provide a good home for these franchises. If we add to this that last year Disney shut down its division dedicated to the metaverse, the answer comes naturally. For now, none of the parties involved have said when we will see this “persistent universe” or when we will be able to access it, so we just have to wait.
