It wasn’t too long ago when WhatsApp informed us that it’s working on a feature where you can edit messages in the mobile app. The edit text feature is meant to open a new screen where you can change any mistakes you made. Now, it seems that it’s developing the same tool for the desktop version.
While these WhatsApp beta updates are interesting, they don’t really provide much information. There’s a screenshot that WABetaInfo provided on its blog, revealing the edit text feature in a chat window. From the appearance, it looks like it opens a different window to adjust the text and resend it.
Let’s spend some time thinking about this for a moment. If you look at Telegram and Skype, you can edit your chats directly where the message is. Perhaps the screenshot is an early look and there are no other messages to reveal what it will eventually look like on your screen. My other question is whether the editing function is really that important.
Sure, I understand if you deal with your clients on WhatsApp, you’ll want your messages to read properly. It depends on how quickly they read your message. It may just save you time correcting yourself in the next message than go in, edit, and then save the changes.
I’m being pedantic. This new feature is probably a result of users saying that other chat apps have it, so why not WhatsApp? It’s almost as useless to me as the upcoming ability to search for old WhatsApp messages by date.
