If there is one thing that is difficult to estimate and leak about the new iPhone 15 models before they are released, it is the price. It is a tremendously internal matter within the company and something that is decided practically at the last moment. For this reason we can only stay in the realm of assumptions, but we still have several pieces of information to consider.
Arguments in favor of increases, as well as against
On the one hand, we are faced with the multitude of rumors claiming that the iPhone 15, especially the iPhone 15 Pro, could rise in price between $ 200 and $300. A more than considerable increase. In fact, it would be the largest since the launch of the iPhone 8 in 2017. A rise, moreover, of which we are not clear about the cause.
One of the most repeated rumors about the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is the inclusion of a new lens technology for their cameras. We’re talking about a periscopic system that allows the lenses to be positioned in the long direction of the phone. This translates into a much higher zoom level and also more space so you don’t have to enlarge the width of the phone.
In this respect, however, as Ming-Chi Kuo revealed to us a few days ago, it appears that these components will not impact the price of the new iPhones. As far as we know, Apple has managed to negotiate a price of just four dollars per lens pack, including prisms, with a supplier. According to Kuo, these lenses are sold at cost.
With this in mind, we must turn our attention to other rumors to justify a price increase. We could talk about the use of titanium for the frame of the phones or the haptic buttons that require the inclusion of new Taptic Engine in the iPhones, but neither seems sufficient reason for the change.
Right now, rumors of a price change and rumors of a price decrease seem to be tied in terms of reasons for a price increase or decrease. Let’s remember, however, that Apple has recently adjusted the price of iPhones and other devices outside the United States. These changes are due to inflation and external factors that have little or nothing to do with the cost of manufacturing the devices. In view of the above, while iPhone 17 rumors overshadow the wait for the iPhone 15, we will have to wait to see the latter on stage at Apple Park to find out for sure.
