Will we have 'The Mask 2'? Its director neither confirms nor denies

Very few actors have had a streak like Jim Carrey between 1994 and 1995: Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Batman Forever, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, and of course, The Mask. The adaptation of the comic book of the same name catapulted Carrey to success, cost 54 million dollars, and ended up grossing 343. The success was so great that a sequel was quickly promised… which didn’t arrive until eleven years later: Son of the Mask didn’t interest anyone and the saga ended there forever. Or did it?

Well, apparently, the director of that movie doesn’t care that 32 years have passed, because it’s always a good time to bring The Mask back. If you’re surprised, take a look at his credits from recent years, because he hasn’t returned to top-tier cinema since 2002 with The Scorpion King. Of course, with these credentials, he would do whatever it takes.

This is not the first time he talks about the subject, but few times so directly: “It is always talked about. There was a sequel, don’t forget about Son of the Mask, which I avoided. They were kind enough to offer me the direction, but comedy is tougher than action. The Mask has comedy and action, but above all it was a comedy”. Do you know about The Mask 2 and Nintendo Power? “The comedy in these movies has to work perfectly because we can make a suspense thriller. We can make a bigger action movie, but comedy is tough. A sequel to The Mask is something I’m always asked about. It would be amazing to come back, especially with Jim. It’s not ready yet, but it’s a lovely idea“. Carrey has spoken several times about retiring from film and for a while now he only plays Dr. Robotnik in Sonic, but hey, you never know. Someone should stop him!
