The movie Pegasus 3 has become the big box office phenomenon of 2026, accumulating a global total of 529.6 million dollars, making it the highest-grossing film of the year.
Directed by Han Han, the film follows the story of Zhang Chi, a veteran car racer who leads a team in an international rally. Released in China on February 17 and in other markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia on February 23, Pegasus 3 has surpassed the previous leader, Wuthering Heights, which had achieved 192 million dollars.
Stormy Pegasus
The evolution of Pegasus 3 is remarkable, especially considering that it has only grossed 369.3 million dollars in China. However, the film is not without competition, as it has seen how Scream 7, the new chapter of the popular horror saga, has had the best opening of the series, reaching 97.2 million dollars globally and ranking fifth among the highest-grossing films of the year.
Despite the challenge posed by these releases, Pegasus 3 has the potential to compare with the great success of 2025, Ne Zha 2, which grossed $2.259 billion worldwide.
Although analysts are cautious, some may consider that Pegasus 3 could reach a similar figure, although its long-term success will depend on how it continues at the international box office, where its IMAX release has been limited.
It is also noteworthy that the adaptation of the novel Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao, remains strong in the Top 10 with $92.2 million, establishing itself as a contender in the race for the Oscars 2026. For now, the cinematic landscape of 2026 continues to evolve, and the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Pegasus 3 can maintain its leadership or will be surpassed by emerging titles.
