Xbox Storm King controller leak shows Gears of War design: reveal could be two weeks away

Dealabs says Microsoft could announce a limited-edition Xbox wireless controller called Storm King sometime in the next two weeks, and the design is said to draw straight from Gears of War: E-Day.

According to the report, this is a premium controller built around the series’ darker visual style: a cracked black-and-red finish meant to resemble volcanic rock, the Crimson Omen logo, and blood-red detailing on the D-pad, the center buttons, and the right thumbstick.

Price-wise, Dealabs points to $89.99 , £84.99, or €89.99. That would put it above the regular Xbox wireless controller, though still pretty much where limited-edition accessories usually land.

If you collect Xbox gear, or just keep up with Gears of War, this is the kind of release that’ll probably get your attention.

For buyers, a themed controller like this is a much cheaper way to buy into the franchise than replacing your console. For Microsoft, it fits the current playbook: keep Xbox in front of people with special-edition accessories while talk about next-gen hardware keeps circulating, including the reportedly backward-compatible Project Helix, and after recent Series X and Series S price hikes in parts of Europe, Japan, and Brazil.

If Microsoft does make it official, expect a premium Xbox wireless controller tied to Gears of War: E-Day, sold through the company’s usual Xbox retail channels.
