The revered title of the Xenosaga saga, known as Xenosaga: Pied Piper, will be released on PC via Steam following its exclusive launch in 2004 for mobile phones in Japan. This announcement, while exciting for fans, comes with some nuances: the PC version will not include modern enhancements or an English translation, which poses a barrier for non-Spanish speaking players who wish to experience this installment of the series.
A mobile title and only in Japanese
Xenosaga: Pied Piper is a game that has rarely been mentioned outside of its original context, as it was never released in the West. However, G-Mode’s effort to bring it to modern platforms deserves recognition, especially considering the difficulty of accessing other Xenosaga entries today. The series, which is part of the broader Xeno franchise that includes the popular Xenoblade Chronicles, has been an integral part of the legacy of Japanese RPGs, but currently faces restrictions due to ownership by Nintendo.
The announcement of this adaptation comes as a glimmer of hope for fans of the series, who have seen other Xenosaga titles remain in limbo. Although the visual quality of the game seems to scale well on modern platforms, the lack of updates and translation may deter a wider audience. Interested players should keep in mind that the game, originally designed for flip phones, reflects its era in many ways, which may not resonate with current audience expectations.
In summary, although the arrival of Xenosaga: Pied Piper on Steam is not perfect, it is a step towards the preservation of past titles that deserves to be celebrated. Still, it can be anticipated that many fans of the saga will have to wait even longer to see other Xenosaga games available on modern platforms, given Nintendo’s current interests.
