yahoo-web-messenger.gifMicrosoft was the first to launch a web version of its popular Messenger client. Then, Google integrated GTalk! client into Gmail. Today, following this trend of desktop applications going online, Yahoo! launches its own service of web instant messaging.

Yahoo! Web Messenger has been fully developed in Flash 9, so you’ll need to have the Flash plugin installed. It will include all the standard basic features, as well as support for avatars and emoticons. Users will also be able to add Live Messenger contacts, as a result of the deal signed last year between Microsoft and Yahoo! to allow interoperability between their respective messaging networks. According to Yahoo!, VOIP functionalities will be added at some point in the near future.

As for now, you may as well watch the video preview that Yahoo! prepared to learn about this new online web messenger, and of course, sign in and try it out if you already have a Yahoo! ID.
