The fascination of Nintendo gamers with their titles can reach curious levels, to say the least. Games like the enormous The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have turned the community upside down and made us all become obsessed with Link and company again (and rightly so, all things considered). This has led to a debate on TikTok about a great mystery: what does Link smell like?
The blame has to go to user @bigthighthescienceguy: on his TikTok profile, we can see how he embarked on a mission to rank each version of Link according to the scent it would give off (in his opinion).
Their conclusions were quite clear. Skyward Sword’s Link was declared the smelliest due to his clear lack of personal hygiene. However, the position of stinkiest would go to Link from Ocarina of Time: spending 7 years without going near water has its consequences. Despite the overwhelming logic of the matter, Hidemaro Fujibayashi and Eiji Aonuma (director and producer of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, respectively) also wanted to comment on the matter and offer a different point of view.
In an interview conducted by Wired, Aonuma explains that the Link we can see in Breath of the Wild (dressed in bone and fur clothing) would have a smell that could be described as “wild animal“. In his opinion, his “scent” would be even worse than the one given off by the Link of Ocarina of Time. On the other hand, Fujibayashi believes that the worst would be that of Twilight Princess. To defend his stance, he recalls that that particular Link engages in “sumo wrestling with the Goran tribe […] that situation should smell pretty bad.” However, Aonuma was clear on who would smell worse than Link: “in fact, I think Ganon would be the stinkiest, if I think about it carefully.”
In your opinion, what do you think would be the stinkiest Link in the saga?
